Hi Tarrin, how does a lack of response altogether fit into the reactive, responsive categories? One asks the horse a question and it is not apparently received at all. Example, one enters the stall, picks up a rein, clucks or adds calf pressure and nothing outwardly happens. Is the horse blocking it out the reaction? Thanks.
Hi PeggyThis falls in the shut or unresponsive categories. Shut down means the horse has just learned to internalize, accept its fate, but appears lazy or stubborn. Under the right circumstances they can become dangerous and explosive. Others just are not responsive because they don’t respect the human as a leader. Generally the human has not been clear in their communication and the horse has learned to ignore the communication.
