Foals

Occasionally we will have foals available for sale.  We do screen buyers who want to purchase a foal.  Purchasing a foal is a huge commitment.  There are years of training ahead before that foal will become a solid riding partner.  It can be an amazing journey for those who are prepared to take it.  Our foals are raised in herds.  They learn to be a horse first.  They are in large pastures with varied footing, open areas, treed areas and water crossings.  They live with their dams and other herd members until weaning which happens between 6 and 7 months.  At weaning the dams are removed from the herd and the foals stay with the remaining herd members.  Foals are handled daily.  They learn to be in stalls, walk through narrow corridors, go into dim areas, etc.  The foals are trimmed every 3 to 5 weeks.  They are dewormed 3 to 4 times prior to weaning.  The foals stay on a species appropriate diet and have access to 24/7 forage.  The foals are able to view all the horses being worked in the arena.  Prior to going home, the foals will be halter broke, given beginning lessons on preparation for tying (we do not tie foals.  This can create permanent damage to their necks), exposed to obstacles and will have been in a trailer.  Foals will be branded, have a current coggins and their first round of vaccines.  Foals will have received 2 to 3 bodywork sessions to deal with any birth traumas and growing pains.  We believe in good handling at a young age to set them up for success the rest of their lives.  Good handling does not mean over handling.  Over handled foals have little respect for humans.  Good handling has a purpose, is not overdone and leaves the foal in a good place with each experience.  Buyers will receive 4 lessons with the purchase of a foal.  The lessons must be used prior to the foal leaving the farm.  All of our foals will have their AQHA registration completed along with their 6-panel genetic testing with AQHA.

Buyers are responsible for all costs after weaning.  Foals will need to be picked up by their 7-month birthday.  After the 7-month birthday, board is charged.  Buyers are responsible for costs of transporting.  Buyers are responsible for the second round of vaccines on their foal.  Securing a foal requires a signed contract and a 50% deposit of the purchase price.  The balance of the purchase price is due at weaning.  We strongly recommend buyers purchase insurance and will haul the foals for the insurance exam at our vet for no cost to the buyer.  We always allow prepurchase exams at the buyer's expense.  We will transport the foal to the vet of the buyer's choosing within a 60-mile radius of the farm at no expense to the buyer.  If the vet is over 60 miles, fees will be charged.  We will not haul foals more than 4 hours round trip.
