Thursday Thoughts
Your horse protects their engine. Their hind end is what gives the flight and they also use it to fight. A horse yielding it’s hindquarters to you is entrusting you with their safety. They are giving up control of something vital to their survival.

Pause will get you farther than fighting
Your horse doesn’t want fight with you. If they are getting emotional and looking for an out, they don’t understand the information, they aren’t strong enough or they are painful.

Good training doesn’t disappear with time off
If it feels like you have to start over every time your horse gets a break because of life, there is a problem. Either the training wasn’t good or the horse is painful.

Sometimes We Need to Walk Away
There is a fine line between pushing too far and not pushing far enough. If we push too hard we can shut our horse down, create anxiety about what we are trying to accomplish, and drive our horse away from us. If we stop too soon, we can teach the horse that when they get stressed we stop which never helps them learn to deal with pressure. How can we find that line?

Why does board cost so much when they are eating grass?
Grass isn’t free. It takes maintenance, mowing and spraying. That costs money in diesel, oil, hydraulic fluid, filters, grease, repairs, sprays, etc. To keep equipment running and pastures maintained is expensive. I spent 5 hours mowing today. Jaedon spent two hours working on equipment and another two hours mowing. That was only three of our 11 pastures/pens. Just in labor, that’s $720. I spent $200 on diesel. We used oil, hydraulic fluid, grease all that have to be replac

Alright. Life is hard and so is technology. I started the zoom. Talked to Lisa. Evidently my internet cut out and I spent 15 minutes talking to myself.

Effective Immediately
All off site lessons are canceled for the remainder of 2026 (this does not include clinics. This is for regularly scheduled lesson days at off site facilities within a 60 mile radius of the farm). With my husband’s detail for 12 months and my need to travel back and forth to both DC and Washington state, I can’t accommodate off site lessons at this time. I am available for lessons here at the farm, intensive session where you stay 2-3 days and virtual lessons. All clinics are

Tarrin’s Thursday Thoughts
Just for fun, try sitting still for 3 minutes and focus on one object. Do not let your mind wander, only think about the one object you are looking at. Can you last three minutes? Next, sit at your computer and type a letter to your spouse about your last vacation. While typing start thinking about your last ride on your horse. Could you continue the letter when you let your mind wander? Now, try sitting at your computer practice tying your shoes but have someone giving

Tarrin’s Theories and Thoughts
If you have conditioned your horse and created a good foundation for where you are going, new things should not be a fight. If you are fighting with your horse over new skills, stop. Evaluate. Are you expecting too much too soon? Did you skip a step? Are you expecting your horse to complete a task they are not fit enough to do? Are you being clear? Are you pushing too hard?

Updates
First, thank you to all of my clients who have been supportive and understanding. My dad had a catastrophic stroke. He went from working on the family property and going to the gym to deceased in 48hrs. It’s been a shock for our family and I’m absolutely gutted. I appreciate the understanding of everyone I had to cancel on last minute. I think I have contacted everyone to reschedule. If I missed you please reach out! It was not intentional. My brain feels like it’s stuck on
