We have goals. The horse has no goals outside of survival. The horses are voluntold they must participate in our goals. Therefore, it is important for us to prepare the horse correctly to participate in our goals in a way that promotes mental and physical soundness. We must progress at the speed the horse can handle, not at the speed we wish to accomplish the goal. The horse owes us nothing. They did not choose to be domesticated and used for our needs, goals and gratification.
