You have to understand the inside of the horse to communicate with the outside of the horse. 

Desensitizing breaks your horse, it doesn't build your horse. Forcing your horse to face something they are afraid of teaches them to shutdown. Shutdown horses will become dangerous horses when they awaken.

Fiddling with the face wil not fix your problem.

It’s easy to be a fair weather rider. That won’t educate your horse

Just imagine how hard our horses would try for us if we tried to be more like the teacher we would like to have.

Shortcuts and skipped steps lead to dysfunction. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it.

Learning is painful. It requires us to let go of tradition, change habits, and accept we did the best we could until we knew better

The horse comes first and the sport second, ALWAYS

If your horse is behaving poorly it can mean their voice has been ignored and now they are shouting. Listen for the whisper

Be careful what you telegraph to your horse

Self carriage will never be achieved through micromanaging your horse. We all want to be great helpers (micromanagers) for our horses. We try to prevent mistakes by holding a movement or containing the movement. Horses don't learn that way. In fact they get kind of resentful. They can't move their bodies when we are "helping", we are in their way. It's kind of like a toddler hanging on your leg while making dinner.
